Our Distillery founder, John Duff, pursued whisky adventures at home and abroad, before building BenRiach Distillery in 1898, in the north of Speyside. It is in his adventurous spirit that we boldly approach the art of distillation and cask maturation, pushing the boundaries of malt alchemy like no other. As an unconventional Speyside whisky distiller, we distill three malt whisky styles - unpeated, peated and triple distilled. Over our 120 year history this has allowed us to build a reputation for eclectic cask maturation, with an uninterrupted inventory dating back to 1966. Back in the 1970's, the BenRiach Distillery made the bold move of returning to distilling peated malt, at a time when most Speyside distillers had moved their focus towards unpeatedmalt distillation. This experiment with a peated variation of our classic quarter cask expression was awarded the best Speyside single malt in their non-age statement category during the 2018 World Whisky Awards.
